Konopiště Castle

Konopiště Castle, Rose Garden
Base for Konopiště Castle was an early gothic castle from turn of 13th and 14th century built in style of French castle. The corners of the building were fitted with four towers; other three towers were in the frontage. After the renaissance modifications, it came the baroque and with retreat of the defence function were the six towers lowered to the floor level. The revolutionary changes of the castle occurred during the time of the archduke Franz Ferdinand d’Este, crown prince. At his instance, the castle was re-built according to the rules of historical romanticism, its surroundings was modified as a large park and the Rose garden arose. The archduke collected large amount of valuable objects on the castle, wide is e.g. the collection of weapons and armament.

Dobříš Castle

Large castle – residence of the Mannsfeld family – was built in the 2nd half of 17th century; it became today’s rococo look in the middle of 18th century. Interiors are equipped with the valuable rococo and classicist furniture. But most impressive is the arrangement of the French garden, which belongs the most beautiful in the Czech Republic.

Karlštejn Castle

The most important and sure the most famous Czech castle was built by Charles IV in the year 1348, among other for the purpose of storing of the crown jewels and holy relics. Today’s look of the castle is not quite identical with the original. It is a result of the essential reconstruction from the end of 19th century, which, in quest of return the gothic look of the castle, certainly blotted out the elements of previous styles. One of the most precious Karlštejn´s parts is the Saint Cross Chapel – place of storing of the crown jewels and holy relics. The gold-plated arch, together with 127 board pictures of the Mister Theodorik creates one of the most preserved gothic interiors of the world.

Pseudo-gothic castle with typically red colour of walls. Originally, it was a gothic fort, which was fundamental reconstructed in half of 18th century. Its owners were then Mladots, and they owned the castle up to the year 1948, when it was nationalized. It was again returned to this family after 1989. In the 2nd half of 20th century, it was used by the museum in Příbram and by the district archive.

Hluboš Castle

The late baroque castle, reconstructed a new-renaissance in 19th century, it served as a professional school up to the year 1989. After the return to the original owner, it should be reconstructed and then it was open to the public. The biggest attraction is the exposition dedicated to the T. G. Masaryk - the president chosen the castle as its first summerhouse in the years 1920-1921. The single salon is dedicated to its wife too, to Charlotte Masaryk. In the big hall – thanks to its exceptional acoustic – are regularly organised the concerts.

Jemniště Castle

The castle was built in the second decade of the 18th century under the influence of the baroque. In 1754, it was destructed by fire and the reconstruction gave the rococo style to it. The main hall and the castle chapel are decorated by paintings of F. A. Scheffler and V. Reiner.

The castle was built in 1656 by Servác Engel from Engelfluss shortly after the burning of the former fort by Sweden troops.

Týnec nad Sázavou Castle

The part of the castle from turn of 12th and 13th century is one of a few Romanesque monuments in the Czech Republic. The rotunda stayed preserved (it was built in 11th century), and the prismatic tower and later gothic building too. The value of the building was fully appreciated in 20th century, before this moment, it was used as manufacture.

Vrchotovy Janovice Castle

Approximately in the half of 14th century, the middle-age-castle was reconstructed to a renaissance castle. It was many times modified; the last modification was in the 19th century as Romanesque gothic. The castle interiors contain the National Museum collection and they document the evolution of the Czech society during the 19th century. The Czech bell founding exposition is exposed in the original gothic vault.

Koněprusy Caves

These are the caves with three-floor corridor system and with stalactite and stalagmite decoration. The upper two floors are accessible; the route length is 800 meters. Interesting are the non-typical krast shapes – Koněprusy roses. According to the archaeological findings, the caves were occupied by prehistoric people and animals. In the second half of 15th century, it was an ideal shelter for forger's workshop.

Svatý Jan pod Skalou

The history of this Benediction’s monastery begins in the 11th century as a cave-chapel of Saint John Baptist. In the 16th century, the abbey was created here. In the 17th century, a new church was built and a new monastery too; it was dissolved approximately after 100 years by Joseph II. In the 16th century, it became a sought pilgrimage place – the destination of the pilgrims were alleged remains of Saint Ivan, who lived as hermit in the near cave.

Four-floor baroque granary from 1770. The exemplary building of the people architecture of Dobříš region and middle Vltava region. The expositions show the life of country people and the development of agricultural production in the middle Vltava region.

Něštětice Mountain near Neveklov

Něštětice Mountain near Neveklov
12-meters tall concrete outlook tower located in the green forest essentially lost its function. The tower with semi-circular plan was built in 1927 in remembrance of the jacquerie against the ruthless oppressor Pavel Michna from Vacínov in 1627.

Nature trail Drbákov - Albert rocks
The territory protected from 1933 stretches on the steep slopes of Vltava canyon. The sunny rocks inhabit rare animals and plants. The established nature trail goes through the whole territory and it has nearly alpine character with unique views. The most suitable period for visiting is the spring.

Nature trail Skalka
The nature trail is in the city and is not too much demanding, but the rise on the Skalka is more demanding. The trail starts in the F. X. Svoboda Square in Mníšek pod Brdy and ends in the baroque area Skalka. The nature trail acquaints, by means of 8 information tables with orientation maps, with local nature, history and culture.
